Whilst I’ve been pretending Sunday never happened, Wednesday and a new match day has arrived. I’ve put the FA-cup disappointment in the rear-view mirror and shift focus to the West Ham game ahead.
Playing our penultimate game of the 19/20 season today, against a team that’s already beat us 2-0 away, back in September (seems like a lifetime ago). They’re coming into today’s match having won three of their last five games, last being the 3-1 win over Watford. Scoring all three goals in the first half, and the first two within ten minutes. They’re obviously an effective team, so we need to be switched on from the start.
Having had a rough start, West Ham need a point today to be, mathematically at least, over the line. Hard to rank which is more important - league survival or CL spot.
According to statistics we haven’t lost any of our last 19 League games when we’ve netted first, giving us all the more motivation to go out and play convincingly from start. Also, we think there’s a couple of players hungry for revenge. They’ll want to prove a point and show an attitude that says they were as disappointed with Sunday’s performance as we were. At least that’s what I (hope and) expect.
We’re on quite the run now, unbeaten in the Prem since January. A win today won’t just bring us closer to CL play next season, but will also set a new longest unbeaten run in Ole’s manager history (13). Only thing I want more than a win today, is to have been at Old Trafford for our last home game of the season, cheering the lads on from my season ticket seat (see how I snuck that in there), giving them that extra boost.
